The project aims to create self-supporting structures with a high degree of formal freedom through the adaptable repetition of a single element.
A manageable-sized wooden panel (approximately 80x80 cm) is folded using a tensioner attached to the ends of one of its diagonals, thereby creating a self-supporting three-dimensional unit. The length of the tensioner determines the degree of folding, generating a conical shape that effectively results in a structural triangle where two sides remain constant (80 cm) and the third corresponds to the length established by the tensioner.
Based on this premise, these pieces are assembled to cover a surface, and software is used to generate these infinite surface possibilities from a grid determined by the number of pieces.
The system’s design allows for the creation of infrastructure with formal freedom, making it suitable for any topography and location. The piece’s human-scale dimensions facilitate its transport, and its non-destructive assembly allows for cyclical use, enabling the development of diverse geometries using the same elements. Adaptability, low cost, and sustainability for temporary infrastructure needs.
