Cal Casas
Music school and auditorium, Pug-Reig, Catalunya
Context
The project aims to revitalize a space of great historical and cultural value to the community, which is currently abandoned but not forgotten. The goal is to transform it into a new urban hub, connecting it with other parts of the municipality and making it accessible to residents. Emphasis is placed on the topography, with targeted interventions at key locations to create an integrated and accessible route.
Inspired by Pikionis’s intervention at the Acropolis of Athens, a “veil” of ceramic tiles is used as a unifying element, symbolizing the site’s renewal. Transverse bands of recycled material from the old building are incorporated into the route, underscoring the importance of historical memory.
The project highlights the building’s imposing walls, showcasing them as fundamental elements of its history. A longitudinal corridor attached to the north wall is proposed, running through both the existing and new wings and connecting the various spaces of the music and dance school. Additionally, vertical cores linked to the walls are incorporated, allowing for their connection and extending the project outward, creating welcoming open spaces.
