This proposal calls for the comprehensive renovation and expansion of an existing single-family home of approximately 325 m², adding between 90 and 140 m² to completely redefine its functionality and spatial character.
The brief called for transforming a house with a fragmented and uninspiring layout into a home with greater impact, fluidity, and personality. Among the project’s main requirements were the incorporation of new spaces for family life, the reorganization of the living area, the creation of a library for a collection of over 2,000 books, the integration of a collection of Star Wars figures, and the development of an atmosphere consistent with a retro-industrial aesthetic.
The proposal reorganizes the home around a large, double-height central space, conceived as the heart of the house. This void visually and physically connects both levels, integrates the staircase and circulation into the spatial experience, and highlights the client’s collection as an exhibit within the architecture.
On the ground floor, the renovation opens up and connects the kitchen, dining room, and living room into a continuous sequence oriented toward the pool and garden, reinforcing the relationship between interior and exterior. The new addition houses a bright library and a master suite with greater privacy, an expanded walk-in closet, and a redesigned bathroom. On the upper floor, the bedrooms are complemented by shared work and living spaces that take advantage of the views of the double-height space and the outdoors.
More than just an addition, the project proposes a new way of living in the house: more open, more purposeful, and better able to reflect the identity of those who live there.
